Work History

In July 2013 I did one week work experience at a florist. Here I needed to tailor to the customer's requirements, condition the flowers and help with shop upkeep.

I volunteered as an assistant to the PE department at the school I used to attend from June 2014 to July 2014 and again in July 2015. Here I helped set up equipment and worked with children between the ages of 11-13.

I currently have a Saturday job as a customer advisor in a shoe shop which I started in 2016. Here my role is to help customers find a suitable pair of shoes. Our shoes our specialist as they are an extra wide fitting - this usually means I have to deal with elderly customers. I also work the till, fit shoes and help with the general upkeep of the shop and stock. Listening is an important skill here as you need to listen to the customers problems and suggest styles based on their requirements. Memorisation is also important as you have to remember the size, style and colour when going from the shop to the stock room to collect shoes.

From November 2016 - September 2017 I worked as a shop assistant at a curtain shop. Here I used an industrial sewing machine to create tailor made, hand-finished curtains, roman blinds, pelmets, cushions etc. I served customers, operated the till, designed the shop window, created posters and signs, advertised on social media, monitored stock, unpacked orders and communicated with customers to let them know their order was ready, conversed with companies to place and track orders, and helped with the cleaning and general up keep of the shop and stock.

I did work experience with milliner Silvia Prandini in June - July 2018 where I helped her to create a witch's hat. Here I worked with felt, petersham and organza, and stitched on fake flowers and leaves, and added on fairy lights with a battery pack.

In April 2019, I did work experience at my local theatre for their production of the Addam's Family where I worked with the lighting department and operated the follow spots.

As a part of my university course I have also had work experience opportunities. In my first year, we teamed up with TR2 to create costumes to go in the costume store. In my second year we teamed up with Marjons University to make Lycra skin suits for their production of Measure for Measure. We also helped with the dressing in the wings for the actual performances.
